Sustainable Business in Construction

This course equips SMEs in the construction and building materials sector with practical knowledge for integrating sustainability into their business models. Co-delivered by experts in digital construction practices and green policy innovation, the course covers EU and national environmental standards, green public procurement opportunities, and modern business practices such as circular construction, modularity, and the use of bio-based materials. Participants are also introduced to digital tools for optimizing project workflows and aligning operations with the EU Green Deal and NEB principles.

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of the course, trainees will be able to:

  • Explain the key principles of sustainable business transformation within the construction sector, recognizing the environmental, economic, and social dimensions of change.
  • Utilize digital tools such as Building Information Modelling (BIM) and workflow optimization software to enhance resource efficiency and reduce the environmental impact of operations.
  • Identify and evaluate opportunities for adopting circular economy strategies, modular construction techniques, and material reuse within business processes.
  • Interpret and apply relevant EU and national green building standards, procurement criteria, and funding mechanisms to align company practices with sustainability requirements.
  • Integrate and monitor sustainability principles and environmental compliance within both strategic planning and day-to-day operational management of construction enterprises.

Effort

Self-paced; approximately 6 hours total, divided into four 90-minute modules.

Format

Self-paced online learning, structured into four thematic modules with video materials. Each module includes expert-led content, case-based learning, and practical business tools. The format allows flexible completion and supports real-life application by SMEs.
