Koç University’s KARMA Mixed Reality Lab, founded in 2019 with support from the İstanbul Development Agency (İSTKA), is a multidisciplinary hub uniting designers, artists, XR developers, scientists, and engineers to create transformative interactive experiences. The lab’s mission is to advance research, foster innovation in media art, and deliver XR solutions with scalable social impact across education, health, cultural heritage, and industry.
KARMA specializes in tailored XR and interactive media training, design research on novel interaction and storytelling, and consultancy for custom immersive projects. Its expertise spans cultural heritage preservation through 3D scanning and immersive reconstructions, simulation-based workforce training, and wellbeing-focused XR applications. The lab also leads speculative and participatory futures work, envisioning hybrid city experiences and phygital interfaces. Through collaborations with global partners, it runs XR academies, hackathons, and social impact projects. Equipped with advanced XR infrastructure, KARMA enables cutting-edge prototyping, digital twins, and cross-realm interaction research.
