Professional Programme in Industrialised Wood Construction
The programme's objective is to create an initial framework for entering the design and construction of industrialized buildings using wood, geared toward the various professionals who can participate in the design and construction of this new generation of buildings that follow the criteria set by the European Union for the buildings of the near future.

Learning Objectives
In the face of the climate emergency, we need transformative solutions for negative (or at least zero) emissions in our cities. A sustainably managed productive forest is the best natural solution for absorbing emissions, a key reason why using wood in construction is one of the most impactful solutions for decarbonization. However, engineered solid wood has numerous characteristics that make it ideal for the transition to a sustainable circular bioeconomy, such as:
- Renewable source material
- Promotes sustainable forest management
- Stores CO2
- Lightweight and easy to transport
- Is both a good insulator and structural material
- Highly industrialisable
- Promotes prefabrication for faster construction, with greater control and precision, and less on-site pollution and risks
A large portion of Europe's greenhouse gas emissions come from the construction sector. To achieve the EU's ambitious climate goals, the European Green Deal calls on the sector to reduce these emissions by 60% by 2030. Therefore, Europe must harness the enormous potential of using innovative bio-based solutions in construction. Among these bio-based solutions, engineered wood is the most suitable for widespread and large-scale implementation, with cross-laminated timber production capacity in Spain projected to grow by 227% over the next three years. However, the lack of skills and knowledge about engineered wood in the construction ecosystem remains one of the main obstacles to this green transition. Consequently, the Professional Program in Industrialized Wood Construction addresses the need to improve and retrain workers in the construction sector, with a particular emphasis on increasing the quality and quantity of vocational training opportunities, particularly programs on bio-based solutions. Through a network of leading educators, experts, innovators, projects, companies, and facilities leading the industrialized wood construction revolution in Spain, the program will foster the exchange of skills and best practices. In the words of EU President Ursula von der Leyen, these educational programs are "...a support to the European construction industry, addressing labour shortages and promoting knowledge sharing, including on sustainable bio-based solutions, such as the circular use of wood and other innovative materials."
Our education and training methodology within the framework of innovation in built environments has been designed over more than 20 years of experience in the sector and consists of three approaches:
ADOPT
We present our methodology and showcase our projects so that the Organization's participants feel empowered through their knowledge of the IAAC educational ecosystem and the quality of its results.
ADAPT
We support partners in applying our pedagogical model to the current context and their specific needs and resources to implement effective training programs.
APPLY
We work to design programs and activities to maximize the impact on students through practical learning and real-world engagements.
Effort
The program consists of 60 hours over 7 weeks, of which 42 will be in-person (in three seminars) and 18 will be online (in four sessions).
Format
Hybrid: online and presential.
