This course provides a thorough understanding of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) principles and methodologies, enabling them to comprehensively assess the environmental impacts of building projects. LCA is a systematic method used to evaluate the environmental impacts associated with all stages of a product's life, from raw material extraction through production, use, and disposal. Trainees will develop the ability to make informed decisions that minimize environmental impact and promote sustainability by selecting environmentally preferable materials, construction methods, and maintenance practices consistent with the NEB vision. The course is delivered in 3 short video lectures.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Define the concept of LCA) and explain its core principles, including comprehensiveness, transparency, and multi-impact evaluation.
  • Describe the key stages of a building's life cycle, from raw material extraction to end-of-life disposal or recycling, and identify the environmental impacts associated with each stage.
  • Assess the influence of building longevity and renovation frequency on a building's overall environmental impact throughout its life cycle.
  • Apply LCA principles to real-world scenarios in line with the New European Bauhaus vision to enhance the sustainability, aesthetics, and quality of life in urban environments.
  • Interpret LCA results to inform policy and design decisions that promote sustainable development in the built environment.
